Wortwell give Broome the brush off

The Waveney League Knockout final between Wortwell and Broome saw the two old rivals battle it out with Broome looking to add the title to their recent League win.  Wortwell got off to a flying start with the pairing of Colin Colden and Chris Roberts taking a 4 shot lead.  Sheila Rusted, Keith Worsfold and Robert Banbury then added a further 11 shots in the triples.  Broome tried to dig in but come the half time break Ron Saitch and Tony Oram had added another 2 shots whilst the triple of Anita Lambert, Tom “Ding Dong” Bell and David Elliott took 3 shots giving Wortwell a 20 shot lead. The second half saw a very tight pairs match that was all square coming into the last end.  Colin Colden and Chris Roberts were holding four shots when Broome’s Harold Briggs drew his last bowl to the line and took shot giving himself and team mate Sonia Williamson Broome’s first win.  However, on the other mat Wortwell’s triples took another 6 shots.  The final 2 games of the evening saw Wortwell extend their lead further with Anita Lambert’s triple winning by 11 shots.  In the pairs Bob Fulcher and Jenny Catling of Broome fought a tough game winning by a single shot. The final score of 70 - 35 reflected a great team effort by Wortwell and confirmed them as Waveney League Knockout Champions.
