Bob Carter collected the expected maximum 10-0 home win against bottom of the table Thorpe Marriott last night while defending champions Halvergate were extinguishing Watton’s title chances with an 8-2 home win. Last season Gavin & Jack Gray were plying their trade for Thorpe Marriott in the Bure but this season have transferred their allegiance to one of the leagues new boys Bob Carter. That would have proved painful for Marriott as the Grays, with Gary Best at skip, hammered out a 39-3 win at Drayton. Jason Woods’ triple won 24-8, AJ Brown’s triple won 16-9 and Jack Pye’s triple won 18-10 in a result that moved Carter up to 72 points, just one point behind Halvergate. That sets up a mouthwatering title decider on Friday at Halvergate where Bob Carter go in search of their first Bure League title. That will be a huge task as the two points Halvergate dropped against Watton were the only two home league points dropped by Halvergate all season. Carter will need to win the last Bure League match of the season by at least 6-4 to clinch the title while even a 5-5 draw would see Halvergate retain the title. What could be a crucial factor in the match is the presence of former Halvergate stars and England internationals Jason Woods and Morgan Warnes who know the Halvergate mats like the back of their hands. The only other remaining match in the Bure is tomorrow night when Watton Expendables entertain Hevingham, that is now a dead rubber game. Whatever the result Watton will now finish in third place and Hevingham will finish fourth.
Morgan Warnes is sure to spell trouble for Halvergate
