Jason Woods wins Bure Singles title

Bob Carter’s Jason Woods lifted the Bure Singles Championship title last night at Watton as he won all his four games. The first session saw defending champion Ryan Fox of Halvergate open with an 8-5 win against Sid Burton of Watton Expendables while Hevingham’s Richard Moore started well beating Richard McPhee of Horsford BC by 13-3. Jason Woods played his first game of the night in session two against McPhee and won by a comfortable 10-4 margin while Ryan Fox reeled off an 11-2 win against Richard Moore. A third straight win for Ryan Fox came in session three as he beat McPhee 11-4 while a tight game saw Jason Woods take a single on the last end to edge past Watton’s Sid Burton by just 9-8 in a game that could have gone either way. After the interval Burton beat Richard Moore by 7-5 in another tight game on mat one but the match of the night took place on mat two where the two previously unbeaten players, Jason Woods and Ryan Fox, met head on. Ryan Fox started well leading 3-0 after two ends but Woods then hit back to lead 4-3 after four ends. Three shots on the fifth end put Fox back in the lead but Jason Woods played a super shot to take three shots on the sixth end to lead 7-6 and added two more on the penultimate end to increase his lead to 9-6. Woods kept the final end tight with Fox only able to take a single to leave Woods the winner by 9-7. Going into the last session Ryan Fox, who had now played all his games and finished with six points,  could only sit and hope that Jason Woods would slip up against Hevingham’s Richard Moore but it was not to be as Jason Woods powered his way to a 10-3 win, eight points and the title while Fox had to be content with the runners-up spot after collecting six points. In third place was home bowler Sid Burton of Watton with four points, fourth was Richard Moore and Richard McPhee finished in fifth place. The results mean that Bob Carter, in their first season in the Bure League completed a clean sweep winning the Bure League, Bure Cup, Bure Triples, Bure Pairs and the Bure Singles titles.
