David McBride of Ireland is the new SMPT English Masters Champion after beating Ben Pay 11-7 in the final at Chelmsford. Kris McKee won the Plate Section beating Kevin Lawley 14-13 while Ian Crossett won the Shield beating Andrew Scott 14-5. Four Norfolk bowlers took part in the event with Wymondham’s Chris Mann qualifying for the main competition in impressive style winning all his five games in Group 25. Hopes were high for a good run for Mann but he lost his first round knock-out game by 12-4 to Michael Hall. The other three Norfolk players all qualified to play in the secondary Plate competition. Hempnall’s Neil Davidson finished fourth in Group 9 and beat Derek Coates 12-5 in his first knock-out game but lost 14-7 to Kevin Lawley in the Last 32 round. Harling’s George Hume was third in Group 8 and beat Shaun Morley 15-8 in the first knock-out round but was also eliminated in the Last 32 round losing 16-6 to Billy Ray. Wymondham’s John Jeffery came third in Group 30 but lost his first knock-out round game by 15-4 to Nigel Nicholls.
