Chris Willies of Watton Expendables appointed England Manager

Following Steve McAlister’s decision to end his tenure as England Manager the ESMBA have met to consider applications and have announced the appointment of experienced England international Chris Willies of Watton Expendables & Norfolk as his replacement. Many had high hopes when the hugely talented and likeable Steve McAlister was appointed. But despite all those high hopes, and hours of dedication to the job put in by McAlistar, Ireland remain the undisputed kings of international short mat bowls and now Chris Willies has taken on the job to attempt to change that. As a England bowler Willies has a superb record and knows what it takes to be successful at the top. Sixteen seasons as an England player, 72 caps and 2 World titles says it all. Now he has been given the opportunity to stamp his authority on the England set-up and make a very talented squad serious contenders against the legendary Irish. It is the third time the ESMBA have turned to Norfolk to fill this prestigious position with the late George Clarke and Dick Passmore both serving as England Managers in the past. He takes on the coveted position with the very best wishes of all Norfolk bowlers who wish him the best of luck in what is a difficult and time consuming role.
