Title race hots up in Bure League

Watton Expendables entertained Bob Carter as the two new big guns of the Bure League met for the second time this season. When they met recently at Drayton the Expendables held Carter to a 5-5 draw which ended Carter’s run of wins since joining the league. Carter were eager to return the favour, and improve their title hopes, by inflicting a home defeat on Watton but it was not to be as the Expendables ground out a 7-3 home win that ended Carter’s unbeaten record. Pix Hyam, Sid Burton & Jack Marshall opened with a win for the home side beating Jean Woods, Nigel Willard & Jason Woods by 17-11 while Glen Hume, Kacy Suffolk & Chris Willies kept the momentum going by beating Alfie Woods, Morgan Warnes & AJ Brown 14-11. A third win for Expendables followed as Elaine Willies, Robert Howlett & Robin Amos beat Gavin Gray, Melvin Woods & Jack Pye 16-14. It was left to Lydia Kettlewell, Jack Gray & Gary Best to salvage something from the night for Carter and they did so in style beating Andy Rawnsley, Chloe Suffolk & Simon Willies by 19-8. As well as gaining two valuable points for the win Gary Best’s triples scoreline also brought the total shots score to 55-55 which earned Carter a share of the match points as well. The result will probably be welcomed by defending champions Halvergate who are now the only unbeaten side in the Bure League averaging 8.5 points a game against Carter’s average of 7.85 and Expendables average of 6.83. The title race has really heated up nicely now with Halvergate and Bob Carter yet to play each other while Expendables also face a trip to Halvergate’s Upton venue where the home side are rarely troubled.
