In the City of Norwich League attention switched this week to the preliminary rounds of the City League Singles Championships. Jarrolds bowler S Higgins won at Costessey with Lianne Mills of First Bus finishing second. At Windows venue Steve Hall of First Bus was the winner with fellow First Bus bowler Glennis Holmes in second place. Two heats were held at Horsford Heroes venue in St Faiths. Costessey’s Mike Ottaway won the first heat with Mick Dale of Horsford Gold in second place. The second heat was won by Costessey’s Alan Bishop with Lesley Crowe of First Bus second. Thorpe Marriott also hosted two heats. Horsford Gold’s Ray Ayres won the first with Bob Oatway of First Bus in second place. David Dewing of Horsford Heroes won the second heat with Steve Davies of Windows in second place. Taverham won their local derby at home to Costessey by 9-5 which moved Taverham up to fourth place in the table ahead of First Bus who are fifth and Horsford Gold who are now down in sixth place. Nigel James, Jean Young & Jane James saw Taverham over the finishing line with a superb 21-6 win.
