Carter win battle of the big beasts

Two big beasts of Norfolk’s short mat bowls scene clashed at Drayton where Bob Carter entertained Halvergate in the quarter-finals of the Norwich Cup. Carter enjoyed a great start in the triples with Nigel Willard, Steve Bridge & Robert Howlett beating Robbie Lamb’s triple 10-4 and Elaine Willies, John Turner & Melvin Woods beating Morgan Warnes’ triple 8-6. The first pairs session was shared with Carter’s Jason Woods & Simon Willies winning by 6-3 against Josh Baxter & David Lamb while Halvergate secured their first win of the night courtesy of Robin Amos & Keith Cooke who beat Jamie Forster & Gary Best by 10-4 which left Carter with a healthy 6-2 points advantage at the interval. Back came the triples for their second games and Halvergate’s Ray Lamb, Steven Lamb & Morgan Warnes earned an 8-5 victory against Rob Howlett’s triple. Robbie Lamb’s triple needed a win to level the game but went down by 9-5 against Melvin Woods’ Carter triple. Still trailing by four points Halvergate needed to win both of the last pairs games and make up a six shot deficit if they were to progress into the semi-finals. Robin Amos & Keith Cooke produced their second big win of the night beating Jason Woods & Simon Willies by 9-2 and it was all down to the game between Josh Baxter & David Lamb against Jamie Forster & Gary Best to decide the match. In a nail biting finish it went to the wire with David Lamb having the opportunity to send Carter crashing out of the cup with the last bowl of the match but it was not to be as Forster & Best survived to win the game giving Bob Carter a 10-6 points win.
