Last bowl winner for Wymondham in Norwich Cup thriller

Norwich Cup holders Wymondham are through to the final after a thrilling semi-final at Watton Expendables went down to the last bowl. Before the final bowl was played Expendables held shot, with the game looking likely to end at 31-31 and therefore triggering an extra end, but that last bowl by Jack Pye changed everything and gave the visitors a 32-30 win. This sets up a replay of last season’s final against Halvergate.  The unique 30 end cup comp played on one mat, with eight players on each side that captains are able to interchange throughout the triples game, has produced some terrific finishes since it was introduced and this was no exception. Wymondham drew first blood, scoring three shots on the opening end, but Expendables won the next six ends to lead 10-3 and put themselves in a strong position. Wymondham then staged a great recovery to lead 24-16 after eighteen ends with the Breckland League giants now looking strong favourites. After 26 ends Wymondham led by 30-23 but the Bure League side were not done yet and on the penultimate end played their last wildcard where they took two shots, counting as four, and Wymondham went into the last end just 31-30 ahead. Wymondham’s winning team comprised of AJ Brown, Steve Easter, Billie Barker, Mel Barker, Debs Sparham, Jon Sparham, Chris Mann & Jack Pye while Expendables team was Chris Willies, Simon Willies, Elaine Willies, Robin Amos, Robert Howlett, Pix Hyam, Chloe Suffolk & Kacy Suffolk.
