Just as night follows day a Wymondham win in the Breckland League is considered one of those inevitable occurrences. But in their latest match Wymondham’s run of 31 consecutive league wins, dating from the latter stages of the 2022-23 season, finally came to a halt as they were held to a 5-5 draw at Harling Griffins. Wymondham had David Chadwick, Jack Marshall & Jack Pye to thank for saving them from a shock defeat as they produced the defending champions only win of the night beating Sid Burton’s triple 23-5 to secure the match points. Jon Sparham’s Wymondham triple were held to an 18-18 draw by George Cody’s triple in a close encounter. Harling won the other two games with Colin Hayman’s securing a major scalp beating Chris Mann by 13-10 while Andrew Smith, Jill Hayman & George Hume will be delighted with a decisive 18-13 win against AJ Brown’s triple. In the other matches played this week Carleton Rode won 10-0 at Connaught “B” where Karl Newby’s triple won 23-7, Russell Davidson’s triple won 23-10, Terry Newby’s triple won 17-8 and Graham Mobbs’ triple won by 15-13. Hingham won a close game by 6-4 at Shropham where Pam Chapman, Margaret Hunter & John Chapman’s 15-9 win was instrumental in securing the match points. In the Breckland 5 Pairs Thetford won their semi-final first leg tie 45-33 against Connaught “A” by winning four of the five games. Glynis Holbrook & Chloe Suffolk beat Richard Harrison & Richard Broad 9-8, Neil Thomas & Kacy Suffolk beat Derek Liles & Mike Marshall 9-4, Clive Eke & Peter Harvey beat Elaine & Simon Willies 12-5 and Michael Holbrook & Jason Martin beat David Aldous & Paul McDonald 10-6. Graham Etteridege & Bob Oatway scored Connaught’s only win of 10-5 against Caralyn Walker & Peter Scarborough.
