SMPT World Pairs & World Fours

The SMPT held their World Pairs Masters & World Fours Masters events at Chelmsford at the weekend. The World Pairs event was won by Gary McNabb & Martin McNicholl who beat Jason McLean & John Manley 14-2 in the final. The Plate competition, for the pairs who failed to qualify for the main event from the group stages, was won by Robert Kristiansen & Tom Eric Johnsen. Thetford’s Mio Kontic & Jason Martin reached the quarter-finals of the Plate where they lost 10-4 to Mark Granleese & Ian McElroy. The World Fours event was won by Alastair McCrea, Gary McNabb, Ben Pay & Martin McNicholl who beat Benny Sjogren, Joel Hager, Kjell Bjerkseth & Gunnar Frantzen 14-2 in the final. Chris Willies & Sid Burton, playing with Mitchell Young & Stephen Buckett, reached the Quarter-Finals where they lost by just 7-5 to Benny Sjogren, Joel Hager, Kjell Bjerkseth & Gunnar Frantzen. Jack Pye & AJ Brown, playing with Craig Burgess & James Trott, lost in the first knock-out round by 12-2, also against Benny Sjogren, Joel Hager, Kjell Bjerkseth & Gunnar Frantzen. Mark Spalding, Darren Brown, Jan Rogers & Julia Bruce won the Plate Final beating Natalie Evans, Sam Harvey, Andrew Evans & Andrew Coghlin 10-5. Thetford’s Mio Kontic, Jason Martin, Chloe Suffolk & Kacy Suffolk lost in the second knock-out stage of the Plate competition against James Durrant, Dave Goddard, Ian Wilson & Dean Pearce by 10-3.
