Bob Carter announced their arrival back to league bowls with a bang beating Horsford BC 10-0 in their first ever match in the Bure League. Since the demise of the Tens League the Drayton side have been absent from league bowls but with England international Jason Woods at the helm they are back with a vengeance. The old Bob Carter side gained the nickname of the Dream Team in the era of George Clarke and Dick Stenton when they competed in the now defunct Wensum League and could well gain the name of Dream Team 2 if this result is anything to go by. Jason Woods has put together an extremely strong looking squad for Carter’s pursuit of the Bure League title but they will face fierce competition with David Lamb’s Halvergate determined to retain the title. Halvergate will no doubt be weakened by the loss of Jason Woods as a skip but will still be able to field a strong side. Carter’s line-up includes fellow England internationals Morgan Warnes, Gary Best, Jack Pye & AJ Brown and also sees Nigel Willard returning to action after a few years out. Gavin and Jack Gray, who previously appeared for Thorpe Marriott in the Bure League, are another two strong additions to the team. In the first half young Alfie Woods, Morgan Warnes & AJ Brown won 28-5 while Gavin Gray, Jack Gray & Gary Best won 23-6. After the break Carter continued to dominate the visitors with Debbie Pye, Simon Warnes & Jack Pye winning 22-5 while Jean Woods, Nigel Willard & Jason Woods won 22-3. A third team bound to be in the mix are the brand new Watton Expendables side who are another newcomer to the league. This team is a new one formed by England international and ex West Mids ace Chris Willies who played for East Tuddenham last season. The demise of East Tuddenham encouraged Chris Willies to form a new side and this one is also likely to challenge for honours. This team will be captained by another England international Jack Marshall and is expected to have several Norfolk County team regulars in their line-up including England's Simon Willies. An exciting season in the Bure League is in prospect with three teams of this quality taking part.
