East Tuddenham display title credentials

Two solid away wins for East Tuddenham sent out a clear message to Bure League title holders Halvergate that they are determined to be top dogs this season. The important addition of twice England National Singles champion Trevor Brown to their line-up has added another ingredient to the rich recipe that club captain John Turner has conjured up in preparation for what is certain to be a two horse race for the Bure title. Tuddenham visited Horsford BC where wins on three mats earned them an 8-2 away win. Elaine Willies, John Turner & Simon Willies won 20-8, Gillian Amos, Gerald Potter & Robin Amos won 16-5 and Jean Woods, Melvin Woods & Trevor Brown won 15-10. Their only loss was a 13-12 defeat for Sheila Hook, Rob Howlett & Chris Willies against home triple Vic Durrant, Ken Reynolds & John Bugg. Tuddenham’s next visit was to Hevingham where they did even better recording a maximum 10-0 win despite the absence of England international Chris Willies due to work commitments. Elaine Willies, Sheila Hook & Rob Howlett opened in style with a 21-10 win while in the other first half game Jean Woods, Melvin Woods & Trevor Brown won 14-9 after winning the last two ends of what had been a tight game. The second half saw Chrissie Turner, John Turner & Simon Willies cruise to a 19-12 win while Gillian Amos, Gerald Potter & Robin Amos won 15-14. It was a last gasp win for Amos’s triple who had trailed 14-8 with three ends to go before taking five shots on the thirteenth end followed by two singles. The home triple of Joan Costello, Chris Brooks & Marjorie Hall had played well and led throughout until the East Tuddenham triple finally pulled level on the penultimate end.
