The ESMBA have announced the National Championship allocations for this season and Norfolk once again has the maximum four entries in each of the four main events, the National Singles, National Pairs, National Triples and National Fours. Norfolk has been allocated one place in each of the two other events, the National Mixed Fours and the National Under 18’s giving a total allocation of 18 places. Essex received 23 places, Devon & Dorset 21 each and Surrey 19. At the other end of the scale London & West Yorkshire have just one entry each, Avon & Shropshire two entries each and Cambridgeshire & Warwickshire four entries each. Allocations are partly dependent on entries into the events and Norfolk’s entry numbers were down this year in the Mixed Fours. This was due to the county being unable to confirm County/National Qualifier dates due to the much delayed confirmation of its I.C.C fixture away to Essex which left the county unable to finalize its dates at Hingham Sports & Social Club. This resulted in a Saturday, instead of the usual Sunday, having to be used for the Mixed Fours which had a knock-on effect on numbers. The Mixed Fours & Under 18’s National Finals will be held at Tamworth IBC on 25-3-17 & 26-3-17 respectively. The four main events will take place at Melton Mowbray IBC, the National Singles on 6-4-17, National Pairs on 7-4-17, National Fours on 8-4-17 and National Triples on 9-4-17. Norfolk qualifiers are reminded that ESMBA rules state that bowlers playing in pairs, triples & fours should ensure they are wearing the same colours as their playing partners. Bowls stickers should also be the same as their playing partners.
