Norfolk produced two solid wins in the ESMBA Inter-County Championships at the weekend with Norfolk Premier pulling off a superb 31-9 result against seven time champions Kent Premier while Norfolk “A” recovered from a slow start to beat rivals Suffolk 26-14 in a fiercely fought local derby. Wymondham’s Jack Pye had another excellent day in the singles winning by 19-7 & 14-12 while the pairing of Jason Woods of Carter & David Lamb of Halvergate won by 19-8 & 18-10. Hempnall’s Neil Davidson, Wymondham’s Debbie Sparham & Halvergate’s Keith Cooke were equally impressive winning their triples games by 16-7 & 17-9 while Lewis Cranston of County Council, Robin Amos of Deaf Sports, John Turner of East Tuddenham & Melvin Woods of Bob Carter won 11-10 & 16-8 in the rinks. Kent obviously came to Norfolk with a game plan but found themselves outgunned on the day as Norfolk Premier continued their impressive unbeaten run. Suffolk began strongly against Norfolk “A” and led 10-6 at the interval. Norfolk “A” were desperate for points to put themselves in contention in their I.C.C group but it began to look like another disappointing result was on the cards. But in the second half Norfolk “A” looked a different side as they took fourteen of the sixteen points on offer and added six bonus points as well to clinch victory. Robbie Lamb of Halvergate was always on top in the singles winning both his games by 18-9. In the fours Roger Steele of Wymondham, Steve Easter of Harling, Andy Sindle of Hingham & Steve Hall of Heveingham won their games by 14-6 & 13-6.
