The four Bure Pairs Championship heats took place this week and the big surprise was at Horsford BC where defending champions John Turner & Melvin Woods of East Tuddenham were eliminated. Halvergate’s David Lamb & Jason Woods had put in a faultless performance winning all their games to finish first but Turner & Woods went into their last game against Woodbastwick’s Derek Sheldrake & David Brawn just needing a win to earn the second qualifying spot. Sheldrake & Brawn though had other ideas and inflicted a 5-1 defeat on the Tuddenham pairing to book their place on finals night. East Tuddenham’s Simon Willies & Gary Best won the heat at Hevingham winning three games out of four. Halvergate’s David Knights & Simon Warnes earned the second qualifying place with a vital 5-3 win against Willies & Best. Josh Baxter & Keith Cooke of Halvergate took maximum points in the Windows heat with Kath Frost & Richard Perkins of Thorpe Marriott securing their place on finals night by finishing second. There was a fierce battle at Halvergate where three pairs all finished level on points and the issue was decided on shot difference. Steve Hall & David Sharpe of Hevingham had beaten the Horsford BC pair 14-1 and this big win left them heat winners with six points and +19 on shots. Mandy Marshall & Ted Redwood of Thorpe Marriott finished second with six points and +13 shots. Their 10-2 win against the other pair who finished on six points, Linda & Les Chadwick of East Tuddenham, proved vital.
