Taverham ended their most successful City of Norwich League season for many years with an 11-3 home win against last season’s champions Horsford Gold. Going into their final game Taverham needed a minimum of eleven points to climb up to third place in the table and that is exactly what they achieved. Aleck Haynes, Lesley Turner & Brian Turner led the way with a 17-4 win while Carol Bullard, Sheila Sawyer & Anne Furness weighed in with a 13-9 win. A vital 9-9 draw for David Riches, Pat Hall & Richard Moore sealed the eleven points to see them over the winning line. The result saw Taverham climb up to third place in the final table which shows a vast improvement in the team’s performances. Looking back on recent years Taverham finished sixth in both the 2022-23 & 2023-24 seasons, eighth in 2021-22 and in a lowly twelfth place in the pre-covid season of 2019-2020. The club will take great pride in the way they have become a much more competitive side in the City League. In comparison Horsford Gold’s fortunes have taken a dip after several years of dominating the City League while reeling off title win after title win. The loss of key players was always going to have a detrimental effect on the team so it is no real surprise. They have finished fifth in the table, ahead of sixth placed Windows on shot difference, after winning nine games and losing nine games over the course of the season. Last season they won fourteen games and lost just four times.
