Defending Bure League champions Halvergate moved top of the table with a heavy 10-0 home win against Thorpe Marriott as the Bure League title race moves towards a crucial week of fixtures. Next week Halvergate entertain the other two title contenders with Watton Expendables visiting them on Tuesday night and Bob Carter on Friday and those games should decide the destination of the league trophy. Carter’s other match is at home to Thorpe Marriott on Tuesday while Watton Expendables entertain Hevingham on Thursday and Carter and Expendables will be looking to take maximum points from those games. With Halvergate, Carter and Expendables all having two matches still to play Halvergate have 65 points, Bob Carter have 62 points and Expendables are on 59 points as the season reaches its climax. The top Halvergate triple against Thorpe Marriott was Mike Tate, Ray Lamb & Robbie Lamb who won 31-5 followed by Kerry Greenacre, Steven Lamb & Keith Cooke who won 30-7. Lianne Mills, Steve Hall & Ryan Fox added a 19-2 win while the only close game of the evening saw Jackie Smith, David Crosby & David Lamb beat Richard Perkins, Sylvia Turner & Kath Frost by just 14-13. Thorpe Marriott were again understrength for this match which saw them having to play the second half without a number two in either triple. Watton Expendables earned an 8-2 away win at Thorpe Marriott where the home side had to play with missing players as they were short on numbers. Elaine Willies, John Jeffery & George Hume won 24-3 backed up by Simon Willies’ triple with a 17-6 win and Chris Willies’ triple with a 19-12 win. Val Perkins & Derek Sheldrake had a good night for Thorpe Marriott winning the remaining game by beating Jack Marshall’s triple 15-13. The loss of those two points could well prove an important factor in the title race.
