Big guns of Bure meet at Carter

The two new big guns of the Bure League met last night as Watton Expendables travelled to play away to Bob Carter. With both clubs having joined the Bure this season, and both teams bursting with Norfolk Premier players, there was plenty of pride at stake as well as points to be gained, as they both strive to take the title off defending champions Halvergate. Expendables Rob Howlett, Chloe Suffolk & Simon Willies opened with a 14-10 win against Alfie Woods, Morgan Warnes & AJ Brown while the other Expendables triple consisting of Glen Hume, Kacy Suffolk & Chris Willies beat Debbie Pye, Melvin Woods & Jack Pye 15-8 in a great first half that saw England internationals skipping all four triples. With two wins under their belts, and a 4-0 points lead, Watton Expendables went into the second half with confidence. But all did not go to plan as Bob Carter launched a determined fightback. Bob Carter’s Jean Woods, Nigel Willard & Jason Woods held Elaine Willies, John Jeffery & Robin Amos to a 15-15 draw to collect Carter’s first point of the night but on the other mat Gavin Gray, Jack Gray & Gary Best pulled off an incredible 32-3 win against Mick Colledge, George Hume & Jack Marshall in another game with England internationals skipping both triples. This left Bob Carter with an overall 65-47 shots advantage gaining them the two match points and achieving a 5-5 draw that looked unlikely at the break. This will be a result that champions Halvergate will appreciate with their two fellow title contenders both dropping points. In the other Bure match played last night Hevingham completed a double over Thorpe Marriott with a 7-3 away win. The first half saw Hevingham’s Steve Easter, Teresa Goldsmith & Selwyn Goldsmith beat Richard Perkins, Val Perkins & Gerald Potter 19-10 while Billie Barker, Marjorie Hall & Melvyn Barker of Hevingham fought out a 13-13 draw with Thorpe Marriott’s Sylvia Turner, Kath Frost & Andy George. Another Hevingham win followed with Pat Hall, Richard Moore & Jane James beating Jenny Walker, Richard Perkins & Tony Turner 16-12 while Gillian Amos, Nigel Hurn & Derek Sheldrake scored the home teams only win beating Val Easter, Lesley Turner & Brian Turner 16-9.
