Norfolk A complete I.C.C double over Essex

Norfolk “A” followed up their 27-13 away win against Essex with a 26-14 home win on points, 208-169 on shots, to complete an early season double in the Inter-County Championships. After the Norfolk Premier home match against Northants was cancelled, due to Northants being unable to raise a team, it was agreed that the match against Essex would be played on eight mats over two sessions. Maximum points were gained by Norfolk “A” in the singles with England international Chris Willies winning his games by 18-7 & 21-8 while Shropham’s Andy Rawnsley won by 11-10 & 15-10. In the pairs Hempnall’s Kerry Greenacre and Jack Pye of Wymondham & England reeled off a 28-2 win in their opening game before winning their second game by a narrow 14-13 margin. A 15-12 win for Forncett’s Mike Smail and Wymondham’s John Jeffery in their second game saw Norfolk collect eight points out of ten in that discipline. Norfolk’s only win in the triples was by Donna Lamb, Steve Hall & Ray Lamb who won their second game by 21-9 while Melvyn Barker’s triple drew their first game 12-12. With an aggregate shots score of 49 each in the triples Esesex collected six points and Norfolk four points. The fours discipline ended with Norfolk & Essex winning two games apiece but with more shots the visitors earned the two bonus points. In the first session Elaine Willies, Jack Gray, Jason Martin & Steven Lamb won 9-7 while in the second session Jan Smail, Gavin Gray, Graham Mobbs & Robin Amos won by 10-6.
