Heroes win at Gold in top of table clash

Horsford Gold’s long hold on the City of Norwich League title looks to be in serious jeopardy after just a handful of matches this season. Last season they suffered just four defeats from their eighteen matches on their way to another title triumph but this year  a different story is emerging as they have already gone down three times in eight games. The latest reverse came on their own mats against title contenders Horsford Heroes whose 12-2 away win will give them belief that this time they can go on to lift the title. Last season Horsford Heroes finished in the runner-up spot twelve points behind Horsford Gold and in the corresponding fixture lost 14-0 at Horsford Gold’s Sandy Lane venue in Horsford. This year they enjoyed a better start with Lyn Frank, Margaret Harman & John Aggas beating Ray Ayers’ triple 10-7 although John Bugg’s Gold triple gave his team a three shot interval lead beating former Bob Carter stars Roger Frank & David Dewing, playing with Vic Webster, by 16-10. After the break Horsford Heroes won on both mats to achieve their 12-2 away win which made it seven wins in a row and kept them top of the table. Carol Aggas, Mally Kemp & Chris Woodhouse beat Christine Walsgrove’s triple by just one shot while Derek Gaskin, Sue Fox & David Crosby beat Mick Dale’s triple 14-8. Thorpe Marriott took full advantage of Gold’s defeat as they collected a maximum 14-0 home win against a British Rail side now one place off the bottom of the table. Marriott are now in second place level on points with Heroes although they have played one game more. The gap between Thorpe Marriott and third placed Horsford Gold has now opened up to fifteen points. Jarrolds suffered a 14-0 home defeat against First Bus in which Glennis Holmes’ triple beat Lyn Couzins’ triple by 20-3. In the remaining game Windows won 12-2 at home to Costessey.
