Young England bowlers at Hingham

On Sunday the England Under 21’s team were in Norfolk where they faced the experienced Norfolk Over 60’s Squad in a battle of the ages. Matches like these are essential to give the cream of the crop of England’s young bowlers the chance to learn their craft. What better opportunity then to face a battle-hardened Norfolk Over 60’s side who may well be into their senior years but are still more than capable of holding their own on the mats. The match gave England Under 21’s Manager Brian Baker another chance to access the progress his young players have made while giving them timely advice when needed. A very enjoyable match was had by all, and gave the young England side the challenge of playing on Norfolk’s slick mats which was not something all of them had experienced before. As expected Norfolk Over 60’s started strongly and built up a 30-8 points lead over the first four sessions. As England Under 21’s began to adjust to the fast mats their scores improved over the last two sessions. Session five saw them win three of the five games and the final session was drawn leaving Norfolk Over 60’s with a 38-16 win on points, 274-192 on shots. Norfolk Over 60’s Organiser Teresa Goldsmith and England Under 21’s Manager Brian Baker congratulated the young players after the match on their efforts as well as the Norfolk Over 60’s players. Several photos were taken including one of the England Team as well as a photo of four of the senior players in the Norfolk side with three of the youngest England bowlers which are below. Before the match badges were distributed by both teams to their opposition to mark the occasion.
