Expendables win at Halvergate

What is looking obvious now is that the Bure League looks likely to be the most competitive in Norfolk this season after the entry of both Bob Carter and Watton Expendables into the fray. In recent years Halvergate have ruled the roost in the Bure winning both league and cup competitions but in the first leg of their first round Bure Cup match, against Chris Willies’ new boys Watton Expendables, Halvergate suffered a rare home defeat. The first half was damaging for Halvergate as the visitors were out of the blocks first winning five of the opening six games to lead 10-2 at the halfway stage. The second half saw Halvergate’s fortunes improve as they won four of the remaining games to cut the deficit to 14-10. It will take an improvement in the second leg if the cup holders are to avoid a first round exit. Pix Hyam, Kacey Suffolk & Chris Willies inflicted three defeats on Halvergate, winning their games by 10-2, 6-4 & 8-2, while Jack Marshall and Simon Willies skipped their triples to two wins apiece. Best performing Halvergate triples were those skipped by Ryan Fox and Robbie Lamb who both won two games each.
