Hempnall began their defence of the South Norfolk League title with a 10-0 maximum win at home to Mulbarton. The visitors found the home side just too hot to handle as the experienced Hempnall team quickly moved into top gear. The evening’s biggest win was achieved by Tim Stockwell, Lewis Cranston & Neil Davidson who recorded a 32-9 win while Keith Cooke’s triple won 26-6, Charlie Archer’s triple won by 21-8 and Paul Baker’s triple won 21-9. The only consolation for the visitors was that they have now got their most difficult match of the season out of the way early on. In the Bure League Bob Carter made it three maximum 10-0 wins in a row in their debut season in the league. In the first half Simon Warnes, Nigel Willard & Jack Pye scored a 26-3 win while in a close match on mat two Alfie Woods, Morgan Warnes & AJ Brown added a 13-10 win against Lesley Turner, Teresa Goldsmith & Selwyn Goldsmith in a hard fought encounter. After the break Gavin Grey, Jack Grey & Gary Best stormed to a 20-1 win while Morgan Warnes, David Knights & Jason Woods recovered from a shaky start to win 18-9 after finding themselves 8-3 down to Jane James’ triple after seven ends. A tight match at Hevingham saw the home side beat Thorpe Marriott 6-4 after both sides won two games apiece. A 21-11 win for Pat Williamson, Teresa Goldsmith & Selwyn Goldsmith helped Hevingham to earn the match points while Marjorie Hall’s triple added a 15-14 last gasp victory against Richard Perkins and Andy George who played magnificently without a number two and only lost the game on the final end after leading throughout. Marriott’s wins were earned by Kath Frost’s triple and Gerald Potter’s triple. Woodbastwick Owls are four points clear at the top of the Coastal League after a 10-8 home win against third placed Bradwell Acorns. Bradwell Dynamos are in second place after winning a local derby against Bradwell Robins by 16-2.
