This weekend the World Short Mat Bowls Championships take place in Belfast as the sports premier event returns to the home country of short mat bowls. For many years Ireland have dominated the sport winning just about anything worth winning, but five Norfolk bowlers have arrived in Belfast determined to spoil the party for the much fancied Irish team. If anyone knows what it takes to be a winner its England Manager Steve McAlister and he has put great faith in his team to do the business in Ireland. Five Norfolk bowlers are in England’s team for this event. Jason Woods & Chris Willies in the World Pairs, Jack Pye & AJ Brown are in Adam Smith’s World Triples contenders and Gary Best plays at number three in Jody Frampton’s rink who will compete in the World Fours. Countries who will be represented in the World Championships are Ireland, England, Scotland, Wales, Isle of Man, Canada, Germany. Sweden, Norway, Belgium, Netherlands, Italy & India.
