The last day of the National Championships saw experienced internationals Bronagh Toleman, Lawrence Moffat & Lee Toleman of North Yorks win the National Triples title again with a 7-5 victory against Hampshire’s Steve Buckett, Alistair McCrea & Ben Pay. In the semi-finals Toleman’s triple beat Cheshire’s Dan Rigby, Paul Clegg & Matty Worden by 9-8 while the Hampshire triple reached the final by beating Surrey’s Janet McEntee, Terry Osgood & Rob Edwards by 12-8. The North Yorkshire triple know more than most about how to win the National Triples title. For Lee Toleman it was the fifth time he had lifted the National Triples title, for Bronagh Toleman it was the third time and for Lawrence Moffat the second time. Lee Toleman won the title in 2005 & 2007 with James Smith & Simon Pridham before winning again in 2014 with James Smith & Bronagh Toleman. In 2020 he made it four wins with Bronagh Toleman & Lawrence Moffat. Norfolk’s Simon Warnes, Morgan Warnes & Gary Best won Group 7 with three straight wins before beating a Humberside triple by 11-4 in the Last 32 round. An 11-9 win against Suffolk in the Last 16 round saw them progress into the quarter-finals to face Surrey. But that proved to be the end of their winning run as they went down by 9-5. Neil Davidson, Trevor Brown & Chris Willies finished as runners-up in Group 9 to qualify for the Last 32 round where they lost by 15-5 to the eventual winners from North Yorkshire. It was a bad day at the office for Norfolk’s other triple of Ryan Fox, Keith Cooke & David Lamb. They were in Group 6 where they suffered three defeats and were eliminated.
