With the Bure League and Tens League titles already wrapped up, Halvergate headed to East Tuddenham for the second leg of the Bure Cup Final with a clear determination to complete a trio of triumphs. Halvergate were protecting a narrow 14-10 points lead from the first leg and with their opponents fielding a strong side, including current and former England internationals, they expected a tough game. East Tuddenham knew that a good start was essential, and that two wins on their own mats would level the score, but the visitors clearly had other ideas. Mike Greenacre, Donna Lamb & David Lamb opened with a superb 10-4 win against Jean Woods, Melvin Woods & Chris Willies while Mike Tate, Simon Warnes & Jason Woods edged a tight game by 6-5 against Elaine Willies, Melvyn Barker & Rob Howlett to stretch their aggregate lead to 18-10 on points. Halvergate continued to apply the pressure in the second session as Keith Baker, Ray Lamb & Robbie Lamb beat Gillian Amos, Gerald Potter & Robin Amos 6-3 and David Knights, Karl Newby & Ryan Fox stormed to an 8-1 win against Chrissie Turner, Simon Willies & John Turner to leave the home side trailing by 22-10 on points. The third session finally saw East Tuddenham pick up points as Rob Howlett’s triple won by 8-4 against David Lamb’s triple but the session was shared as Jason Woods’ triple beat Chris Willies’ rink 5-3. This left the home side needing to win all the remaining six games to level the match on points but their faint hopes disappeared in the fourth session as Halvergate won on both mats with Ryan Fox winning 8-5 against Robin Amos and Robbie Lamb beating John Turner’s triple 4-3. With Halvergate now leading 28-12 on points, 118-89 on shots, the last two sessions were left unplayed and Halvergate were celebrating winning the “treble”.
