Hempnall were quick out of the blocks against visitors Connaught “A” in their Norwich Cup quarter-final clash. Bernie Cudden, Chris East & Rob Cranston opened with an 11-6 win against Richard Harrison’s triple while Mick Pearce, Joan Cann & Charlie Archer beat Owen Secker’s triple 7-2 to give Hempnall an early 4-0 points lead. Hempnall’s pairs carried on where the triples left off with Roger Parker & Neil Davidson beating Sheila Bragg & Joe Lirocchi 13-5 and Lewis Cranston & Paul Baker beating Mike Parsons & Lee Fallows 13-5. After the break Rob Cranston’s triple sealed Hempnall’s place in the semi-finals with a resounding 19-1 win against Owen Secker’s triple. The three remaining games all went Connaught’s way as their late flurry of wins reduced the deficit to 10-6 in Hempnall’s favour but the damage had already been done.
