Current challenge cup holders Hempnall take a 12-8 lead back with them after a marginal win at Connaught. The defending champs got off to great start in the singles with an 11-9 win for Paul Baker over Shelia Bragg while Neil Davidson beat Sylvia Parsons 12-7. The fours were shared as Connaught's strong four comprising of Elaine Oatway, Jack Marshall, Bob Oatway and Lee Fallows beat Colin Stevenson, Bernie Cudden, Mike Pearce and Richard Harrowing 8-5. That win was not enough for Connaught to overturn the first half shot deficit as Lewis Cranston, Joan Cann, Owen Cranston and Rob Cranston beat Derek Liles block 8-6 to give Hempnall an 8-2 lead. The singles came back out with Neil Davidson in strong form again beating Shelia Bragg 9-5 but Sylvia Parsons foughtback for Connaught beating Paul Baker 13-10. The fours were again shared in the second session and again saw Lee Fallows four win this time by a big 12-2 scoreline over Rob Cranston. Richard Harrowing's four however beat Derek Liles 9-7 but the result was not enough to give them the shots and instead Connaught won the second session 6-4 to give them hope going into the second leg at Hempnall.
