Even with home advantage Forncett went into the first leg of their Norwich Cup semi-final against Wymondham as underdogs, and they knew that a good result was essential to give them any chance of reaching the final. Keith Humphries, Nigel Youngman & Mike Smail opened well for Forncett beating Melvyn Barker’s triple 11-9 but Billie Barker, Simon Warnes & Jon Sparham replied for the visitors by beating Rebecca Humphreys’ triple 8-7. The second session saw the pairs in action and Wymondham established a four point lead by winning both games. Pat Saunders & Debbie Sparham won by 13-8 while Roger Steele & Chris Mann won by 7-6. The triples came back out and produced another drawn session with Martin Humphreys, Gill Coleman & Rebecca Humphreys beating Mel Barkers’ triple 9-5 while Jon Sparham’s triple again won for Wymondham by beating Mike Smail’s triple 9-6. The last session saw both Wymondham pairs win again to give their side a 12-4 points lead to take back home for the second leg. Wymondham started the second leg in excellent form with Jon Sparham’s triple winning 7-4 and Melvyn Barker’s triple winning 13-3. The home pairs then made certain of another Norwich Cup Final appearance for Wymondham as Steve Easter & Debbie Sparham won 21-1 and Roger Steele & Chris Mann won 13-1. The match was still played to as finish though and with three more games going Wymondham’s way the final aggregate score was 26-6 to Wymondham on points. Halvergate were at home to Bob Carter in the first leg of the other semi-final and take a 10-6 lead to Drayton after a great second half. The opening session of triples was shared with Jacky Smith, Robin Amos & Ryan Fox beating Simon Willies’ triple 8-4 while Elaine Willies, John Turner & Melly Woods hit back by beating Robbie Lamb’s triple 9-6. The pairs session failed to split the teams as Halvergate’s Josh Baxter & David Lamb won 10-3 against Nigel Willard & Jason Woods and Carter’s Morgan Warnes & Gary Best won 15-4 against Kerry Greenacre & Keith Cooke. But the third session saw Halvergate move in front as both their triples won. Ryan Fox beat Melly Woods by 10-4 and Robbie Lamb beat Simon Willies by 9-6. The final session saw Josh Baxter & David Lamb win by 10-4 against Morgan Warnes & Gary Best while Nigel Willard & Jason Woods of Carter beat Kerry Greenacre & Keith Cooke 11-6. In the Waveney League the top of the table clash at Broome, where they entertained Wortwell, was won by the home side by the narrow margin of 5-4 on points. Bradwell won 5-4 at home to Haddiscoe, Carlton beat Ilketshall by 7.5 points to 1.5 and Earsham beat Kessingland by 6.5 to 2.5. Coastal Cup table leaders Woodbastwick Eagles beat Martham 13-5 while second placed Woodbastwick Owls beat Bradwell Dynamos 15-3. Breckland League defending champs Wymondham are now eleven points clear of second placed Carleton Rode after winning 8-2 at Forncett where Roger Steele, Melvyn Barker & Debbie Sparham won 22-6 and Pat Saunders, Steve Easter & Owen Cranston won 21-9. The Rode won 7-3 at Connaught “B” where Michael Newby, Terry Newby & Karl Newby won 40-1 and Russell Davidson’s triple won 16-12. Three vital points were dropped though as Graham Mobbs’ triple were held to a 16-16 draw by Peter King’s triple and Ann Biddulph, Angela Bond & David Blundell were beaten 16-6 by Joe LiRocchi’s triple. Latest results in the Winter Afternoon League include a 6-4 away win for Thetford at Shropham where Jean Gardner, Sue Colledge & Kieran Suffolk won 16-6 and David Walker, Chloe Suffolk & Peter Harvey won 12-7. Harling Eagles won 10-0 at home to Watton, Joy Neave, George Hume and Jill Hayman winning 18-4.
