Bob Carter claimed a place in the semi-finals of the Norwich Cup after they broke the deadlock at Connaught “A” with two wins in the final session against the team they beat in last season’s final. The opening session of triples was shared with Connaught’s Jim Squire, Paul McDonald & Mike Minshull beating Simon Willies’ triple 6-5 while Carter’s Nigel Willard, John Turner & Melly Woods beat Bob Oatway’s triple 10-4. The pairs went on the mats for session two but once again the points were shared. Derek Liles & Lee Fallows of Connaught beat England internationals Jamie Forster & Jason Woods 9-6 but Carter hit back with a 14-1 win by Morgan Warnes & Gary Best against Di Quadling & Sheila Bragg. Back on came the triples for the penultimate session but yet again the teams remained level on points. Connaught’s David Quadling, Owen Secker & Bob Oatway inflicted a second defeat on Simon Willies’ Carter triple while Melly Woods’ Carter triple scored their second win of the night beating Mike Minshull’s triple 8-6. With the score tied at 6-6 each and one session remaining it was left to the pairs to decide which team would progress in the competition. Morgan Warnes & Gary Best did their bit for the visitors beating Derek Liles & Lee Fallows 9-5 and Jamie Forster & Jason Woods completed the job with a 7-4 win against Di Quadling & Sheila Bragg to complete a 10-6 points win for Carter. Bob Carter march on but Connaught will be pleased to have pushed Carter all the way in this exciting cup tie.
