Battles in the Bure

Horsford Heroes scored their fourth win from five games to keep their Bure League title challenge on track. A tight first half against visitors Woodbastwick left the teams tied on points at the break but with Woodbastwick leading by three shots. Horsford’s Richard Hart, David Claxton & Roger Frank won by 13-8 against Peter Jablonowski’s triple and Woodbastwick replied with a solid 18-10 win by Matthew Mills, Elaine Cole & Lianne Mills against Linda Chadwick, Richard Dix & Sue Fox. The second half was a different story though as Horsford Heroes took complete control. David Davitt, Mick Dale & Chris Woodhouse beat Margaret Harman’s triple 26-5 while Carol Aggas, David Brown & John Aggas beat Willie Jefferies’ triple 19-9 to earn Horsford Heroes an 8-2 home win.  After a poor start to their campaign that had resulted in three defeats and a draw, Hevingham finally found that winning formula at East Tuddenham. The visitors edged a slight first half lead with Teresa Goldsmith, Marjorie Hall & Selwyn Goldsmith beating Jean Woods, Robert Howlett & Melly Woods 18-10. The home side won on the other mat with Billie Barker, Melvyn Barker & Chris Mann beating Richard Moore, Joyce Vincent & Maurice Kemp 16-12 but the home triple had held a huge lead before a great comeback by Kemp’s triple enabled the visitors to go into the break four shots up. In the second half Hevingham’s John Wade, Chris Brooks & David Sharpe were in great form beating Gillian Amos, Gerald Potter & Robin Amos 15-6. The remaining game went down to the last bowl with Tuddenham’s Elaine Willies, Simon Willies & John Turner snatching a 14-13 win against Pat Williamson, Pat Hall & Steve Hall. This left Hevingham celebrating a 6-4 away win to kickstart their season. In their next game Hevingham won 8-2 at Horsford BC after a great second half. The first half saw both teams win a game but left Horsford BC seven shots to the good. Teresa Goldsmith, Pat Hall & Selwyn Goldsmith found the home triple of Brian West, Malcolm Makins and Tim Blackman in resilient mood but kept themselves in front throughout to win 11-7. Horsford’s Christine Bugg, Piero Cognetti & John Bugg scored what would prove to be the home sides only win of the night beating Maurice Kemp’s triple 16-6. The second half saw Hevingham seal an 8-2 away victory with two big wins. Pat Williamson, Marjorie Hall & Steve Hall beat Pauline Strivens’ triple 26-6 and John Wade, Chris Brooks & David Sharpe beat Dennis Seaton’s triple 25-5.
