A brilliant and highly enjoyable weekend of bowls was had by all at Hingham Sports & Social Club where Teresa Goldsmith’s Norfolk Over 60’s Squad once again entertained Arthur Jackson’s Select team. Arthur of course is well known in the short mat bowls world particularly in his native North Yorkshire where he captains one of the North Yorkshire county sides. Saturday saw the two teams battle for the Annual Friendship Shield which resulted in a 56-24 points win for Norfolk Over 60’s. The match was played over six sessions on seven mats and Norfolk enjoyed a great start winning on six mats in the first session to lead 12-2 and moved 22-6 up after session two. By the midway stage Norfolk led 30-10 which became a 40-12 lead after session four. The final two sessions were close with Norfolk edging them both by 8-6 to seal victory. David Quadling, Geoff Payne & Russell Davidson won all their four games as did Di Quadling, Jill Hayman & Jane James. Sunday saw the Friendly Triples Competition take place with Norfolk & Arthur’s Select bowlers playing together to make up 20 triples in two groups. The winning triple in Red Group were Jenny Walker, Audrey Craven & Colin Coman with eight points and +31 shots while the Blue Group winners were Mick Harris, George Hume and Dennis Mack with eight points and +24 shots. Unlucky to miss out on the wine prizes were D Brown, Malcolm Southgate & Freddie Alnutt who finished on eight points and +18 shots in the Blue Group.
