Norwich Cup holders Bob Carter were one of three teams awarded a bye into the next round when this season’s draw was conducted at the Bure League AGM. Breckland League giants Wymondham, who were runners-up last season, will be happy with a home draw against Hevingham while Halvergate face a trip to Connaught “B” but will also expect to reach the next round. Horsford BC entertain Harling in a tie that is difficult to predict while Framingham Earl are at home to Thorpe Marriott in an all City League clash. The remaining tie sees Bradwell travelling to Hingham. Forncett and Connaught “A” join Bob Carter in receiving a bye. First round ties have to be played by 2nd November. This year’s entry of just thirteen teams is the lowest ever since the launch of the Norwich Cup by organiser Selwyn Goldsmith 30 years ago. At its height the competition attracted an entry of 32 teams but the drop in numbers has continued with this season Hempnall, who reached the final twice in the last five years, and First Bus both withdrawing. The continued fall in numbers may mean that this year’s competition will be the last. Over the years Bob Carter have won the cup an amazing 12 times while Hevingham have won on four occasions. Woodbastwick, who no longer take part, won three times as did the now defunct Kirby Bedon and Coltishall. Breckland League side Connaught have lifted the cup twice while Halvergate, Wymondham and Hempnall have all won once each.
