Diss produce the goods to turn cup-tie around

In a quite remarkable NCSMBA Summer Cup tie  Diss beat Thorpe Marriott by just one shot on aggregate to move into the next round. In the first leg Diss failed to make home advantage count as they were beaten 6-2 on points, 54-45 on shots, as Thorpe Marriott won on three mats. John Jarvis’s triple won by 19-7 against Tony Oram’s triple and in the second half beat Graham Mobbs by 19-12 while Tony Turner’s triple added an 11-9 win against Terry Newby. This would seemed to have set Thorpe Marriott up to finish the task in the second leg at their home venue but Diss had other ideas as they inflicted a 6-2 home defeat on their hosts and by a 54-44 shots score-line. This left the aggregate score at 8-8 on points but 99-98 in favour of Diss. Jenny Walker, Ted Redwood & John Jarvis had given Thorpe Marriott a great start beating Graham Mobbs by 22-7 but Tony Oram’s triple replied for Diss with an 18-6 win against Andy George. Thorpe Marriott did not use the Jarvis triple in the second half though and Diss took full advantage as Terry Newby beat Tony Turner 14-12 and Graham Atter beat Kath Frost 15-4 to seal a remarkable turnaround. Bob Carter won 8-0 at Hingham and are through to the next round after Hingham conceded the second leg.
