After a superb Norwich Cup semi-final second leg at Wymondham the home side matched the score-line that Halvergate achieved three days earlier to leave the teams level on points at 16-16 but a superior shot difference saw Wymondham claim a place in the final. The first session saw Wymondham win both triples games as Roger Steele, Steve Easter & Debbie Sparham beat Keith Cooke’s triple 14-1 while Hayley Osborne, Melvyn Barker & Chris Mann eased to a 7-4 win against Robbie Lamb’s triple. This cut Halvergate’s aggregate lead to just 11-9 and was not the start that Halvergate had hoped for. The first pairs session saw Halvergate claim their first win of the evening as Josh Baxter & David Lamb raced to a solid 12-4 win against John Jeffery & Jon Sparham but Jack Marshall & Jack Pye replied with a 10-6 win against Terry & Karl Newby. After the break the triples returned to the mats and Debbie Sparham’s triple produced another great win beating Robbie Lamb’s triple 16-5. The other triples game resulted in a 7-7 draw between Chris Mann and Keith Cooke which left the teams level on points at 14-14 with just the remaining pairs games to play. Wymondham though had established a 21 shot lead which they knew would be vital if the session was shared. This would prove to be the case as Wymondham’s Jack Marshall & Jack Pye beat Josh Baxter & David Lamb 7-4 and Halvergate’s Terry & Karl Newby beat John Jeffery & Jon Sparham 8-6 with the match not being decided until the last bowl of the session. Wymondham can now anticipate an equally tough two leg final against cup holders Bob Carter with both teams well known for being almost unbeatable on their own mats. Wymondham will be keen to avoid a repeat of last season’s semi-final against Bob Carter when a 9-7 home defeat in the first leg put Carter in the driving seat.
Debbie Sparham's wins of 14-1 & 16-5 proved vital
