Norfolk “A” have claimed their place in the Inter-County Championship “A” Team Quarter-Finals after defeating Surrey “A” 27-13 at Daventry IBC and will now face West Mids “A” next Sunday. The first session was shared with Robin Amos winning 15-7 in the singles and Jenny Walker & John Jarvis winning 16-10 in the pairs. The other games saw John Jeffrey lose 13-8 and Kerry Greenacre & Lewis Cranston go down by 14-7. The second session again ended all square with Jean Woods, Ray Lamb & Terry Newby winning 18-10 in the triples and Angela Bond, Steven Lamb, Mike Boswell & Bob Oatway winning 18-5. Norfolk’s other triple of Mike Smail, David Sharpe & Melvyn Barker lost 14-11 while the rink of Elaine Willies, Graham Mobbs, Steve Easter & George Clarke lost 10-6. The breakthrough came in the third session as Norfolk won on three of the four mats to lead 18-10 by securing the bonus points in both singles and pairs. Robin Amos earned his second win of the day, this time by 20-7, while John Jeffrey kept things tight losing by just 13-10. Both pairs won with Kerry Greenacre & Lewis Cranston winning by 15-14 while Jenny Walker & John Jarvis stormed to a big 22-3 win in their second victory of the day. Norfolk “A” made sure of victory in the last session as Mike Smail, Joan Costello & Melvyn Barker won 11-5, Terry Newby’s triple remained unbeaten with a 9-9 draw and Bob Oatway’s rink scored another big win of 18-5.
