Bure, Breckland & Tens League news

The new winter season has now got into full swing at league level. A flurry of results in the Bure League saw Windows in action early on as they completed three league games. Windows opening match against Horsford Heroes was lost 6-4 as Richard Hart, David Davitt & Vic Webster won 18-8 for the visitors with Chris Woodhouse’s triple adding a 17-11 win. Windows luck failed to improve at Thorpe Marriott where they were again beaten 6-4. Mick Harris, Peter Walker & George Clarke inflicted a 21-6 defeat on Windows while Kath Frost’s triple won by 12-9. Windows visit to last season’s runners-up East Tuddenham ended in an 8-2 defeat. Elaine Willies, Melvyn Barker & Melly Woods led the way for Tuddenham with a 22-10 win, Simon Willies’ triple won 20-9 and Chris Mann’s triple won 18-10. Mick Boswell’s triple earned Windows only win of the night by 14-11 adding to the 22-11 win he got against Heroes and the 16-12 win he got against Marriott. Mick Boswell’s triple has now accumulated six of the ten points that Windows have so far gathered. Horsford Heroes won a tight match by 6-4 at home to Hevingham. The first half saw Heroes take a five shot lead with David Davitt, David Foster & Vic Webster winning 18-5 for the home side while Marjorie Hall, Teresa Goldsmith & Selwyn Goldsmith won 18-10 for the visitors. The second half was again shared with Chris Woodhouse’s triple winning 14-12 for Heroes and David Sharpe’s triple winning 16-12 for Hevingham but the home side held on to a three shot advantage to earn the match points. In the Tens League defending champions Halvergate went down 2-0 at Hevingham in their opening fixture. An impressive 24-6 win for Hevingham’s Lesley Crowe, Pat Hall & David Bunn put paid to Halvergate hopes of repeating last season’s feat of winning every match on their way to the title. I understand that Halvergate have lost the services of young Norfolk star Morgan Warnes from their Tens League side this season, she will be playing for Bob Carter instead who finished third in the table last season. In the Breckland League defending champions Wymondham have yet to play but last season’s runner-ups Carleton Rode opened with a 6-4 win at Harling Unicorns. Hingham began their campaign with an 8-2 home win against Banham while Harling Griffins beat Shropham by 8-2.
