Wymondham have reached the semi-finals of the Summer Cup after brushing aside Thorpe Marriott. After claiming a 6-2 win in the first leg at Thorpe Marriott, only a win and draw was required at home and the tie was over by half time with two solid wins for Wymondham. Simon Warnes, Debbie Sparham and Jack Pye beat Jenny Walker, Mandy Marshall and John Jarvis 16-8. The visiting triple made a bright start to lead 3-0 after three ends but the next five ends all went the home sides way as they moved 11-3 ahead. A three and a brace saw the Marriott triple fight back to within four shots at 12-8 with four ends remaining but this was not enough as four singles were picked up over the remaining ends by Wymondham to claim the win. Mary Fisher, John Jeffery and Chris Mann won 33-1 with Mary Fisher playing one of her finest matches at lead and with John and Chris giving good backup gave their opposition little respite throughout. With the tie now decided the remaining two matches were played over twelve ends. Hayley Osbourne, Laura Hawksworth and John Jeffery beat Mick Harris, Trevor Pinchen and John Jarvis 15-5. A series of three's over the match saw the home side’s lead build to 13-4 with two ends remaining as the away triple could only score on four ends. Jack Pye, Debbie Sparham and Simon Warnes beat Richard Perkins, Ted Griffin and Tony Turner 14-8. Both triples had chances in the match and when Thorpe Marriott picked up three shots on end eight the home triple immediately replied with a four on the next end to restore the five shot lead they held after end five. This killed off any thoughts of a Marriott comeback.
