Breckland League giants Wymondham suffered a shock 10-0 defeat at Carleton Rode that left the home side celebrating a result that underlines their credentials as title contenders. Gill Coleman, Trish Taylor & Russell Davidson opened with a superb 27-10 win against Chris Mann’s triple while Morris Taylor, Angela Bond & Neil Davidson made it a perfect first half beating Jon Sparham’s triple 20-12. Any hopes Wymondham had of a second half comeback were quickly shattered as Jill Davidson, Karl Newby & Terry Newby defeated Jack Pye’s triple 27-10 while Pam Rush, Keith Buck & Graham Mobbs made it a clean sweep beating John Jeffrey’s triple 17-10. Sprowston pulled off a 10-6 away win in the Norwich Cup as Bradwell’s triples found themselves outplayed on their own mats picking up just one point from eight. In the opening games Liz Mason, Margaret Juby & Les Chadwick produced a 10-3 win against Jackie Fortescue’s triple and John Graver, Maureen Munford & George Munford added a 9-6 win against Mike Harvey. Bradwell’s pairs reduced the points deficit to 5-3 in the second session as Anne Baker & John Sargent won 15-1 against Arthur Herring & Dennis Kemble while Roger Squires & Josh Baxter drew 7-7 with Linda Chadwick & Peter Johnson. But the next session of triples saw Bradwell’s hopes of a cup run take a hit as Les Chadwick’s triple won again, this time by 7-3 against Mike Harvey, and the game between George Munford & Jackie Fortescue ended in a 5-5 draw. With one session of pairs remaining Sprowston led 8-4 on points but with the shots level at 39-39 Bradwell just needed to win on both mats to snatch victory. Roger Squires & Josh Baxter certainly did their best as they romped to a tremendous 18-4 win against Herring & Kemble but Linda Chadwick & Peter Johnson took Sprowston over the finishing line by beating Baker & Sargent 6-4 to take their team into the quarter-finals.
In the Tens League defending champions Hempnall won 2-0 at Bob Carter. A super 25-8 pairs win for Jon Sparham & Chris Mann against Nigel Willard & Simon Willies and a 13-8 win for Lewis Cranston, Owen Cranston & Paul Baker against Melvin Woods’ triple earned the points despite the best efforts of Carter pair Jamie Forster & Gary Best and John Turner’s triple who won their games.
Connaught collected a maximum 4-0 home win against Hevingham. Alison Rush, Jack Marshall & Mike Minshull gave Connaught a solid interval lead by beating Joyce Vincent’s triple 23-8 although Rex Cox & David Sharpe kept the visitors in touch beating Di & Bill Adcock 16-10. The second half saw the home side take complete control as Carolina Lirocchi, Mike Smail & Joe Lirocchi beat Alan Bunn’s triple 23-4 and Elaine & Bob Oatway beat Eddie Hayward & Pat Williamson 15-8.
Wreningham’s new look side scored one of the clubs biggest wins in recent years as they stormed to a 10-0 home win against Hingham in the South Norfolk League. The visitors had little to celebrate as Glenda Adcock’s triple won 24-2, Ty Musk’s triple won 21-13, Karl Bunn’s triple won 22-10 and Debbie Bunn’s triple won 21-6. In their next home match Wreningham made defending champions Hempnall work hard for a 6-4 away win. Lewis Cranston, Owen Cranston & Paul Baker’s 24-9 win helped secure the match points for Hempnall while Colin Stevenson, Bernie Cudden & Rob Cranston added a 17-9 win. The home sides points were earned by Ty Musk’s triple with a 12-7 win and Karl Bunn’s triple with a 16-11 win.
