Hempnall made light work of getting through their preliminary match against Harling at home in the challenge cup with every match going their way for a 20-0 win. The singles were a tight affair but both Rob Cranston and Roger Parker came through to win both their match's. Harling's Steve Easter pushed both men close though having lost his first match to Rob Cranston 9-6 and then second session pushed Hempnall legend Roger Parker to the last end eventually going down 8-7. The fours had an easier time of it as Charlie Archer and Gerald Chilvers skipped their fours to victories of 7-2, 14-0 and 12-3, 7-3 to complete the rout. Had the tie been at Harling the result could of been very different as many teams who now go their struggle to adapt to their venue and with their players now more experinced they do pose a big risk for visiting teams.
