David Lamb's rink reach semi-finals in Nationals

Donna Lamb, Ryan Fox & David Lamb of Halvergate, with First Bus bowler Lianne Mills, had a super day in the National Mixed Fours Finals where they did Norfolk proud reaching the semi-finals. After navigating their way successfully through group 13 they met Cornwall in the last 32 round where they enjoyed a comfortable 9-3 win. The last 16 round saw them up against Sophie Heather-Warner, Kate Williams, John Mills & Joe Loveys of Herefordshire who they beat 11-7. A really tough match awaited in the quarter-finals against West Mids Diane Hearndale, Beth Lowery, Adam Easthope & Nathan Caines but they emerged from that game with an excellent 8-5 win. In the semi-finals they played Carol English, Jo Featherstone, Mike Dooley & Saul Featherstone of Gloucestershire where their journey finally came to an end with an 11-2 defeat. The other semi-final saw Craig Burgess’s Essex rink lose by 13-2 against Cheshire’s Vanessa McEgan, Paula Blackburn-Woods, Dave Blackburn-Woods & Adam Smith. The much fancied Norfolk rink of Wymondham’s Jack Pye, AJ Brown, Debbie Sparham & Bob Carter’s Morgan Warnes came through the group stages well and won their last 32 round game by 10-5 against Hertfordshire. But their title hopes were dashed in the last 16 round where they lost 7-9 against Pat Goodchild, Emily Poulter, Mitchell Young & Craig Burgess of Essex. Thetford’s Caralyn Walker, Kate Crawshaw, Clive Eke & Jason Martin opened with a 9-5 win in group 2 but failed to qualify for the knock-out stages despite some spirited performances. The day was even worse for Norfolk’s other qualifying rink. Car trouble on the journey resulted in Jason Woods & Alfie Woods of Bob Carter not making it to the venue leaving Thetford’s Kacy & Chloe Suffolk unable to compete in the event. In the final Cheshire beat Gloucestershire 7-4 to win the title in a game that went to the wire.
