Andy Drummee stars in Windows win

In some ways it was a shock result as Windows won 10-4 at home to already crowned champions Horsford Heroes, but in other ways it was understandable. After seventeen wins from seventeen games Horsford Heroes had captured the City League Championship title in style for the first time in years winning the league by a mile. In this, the last league match of the season for both teams, the pressure was off Horsford Heroes and perhaps they relaxed just a little too much. Never-the-less it was a close match with both teams winning two games apiece but Windows edging it by 46-43 on shots to earn the six match points. Lynn Frank, Margaret Harman & John Aggas gave Heroes a super start winning by 19-4 against Di Boswell’s triple but Alan Cheal, Pat Williamson & Mark Tuttle replied with a 16-7 win against Roger Frank’s triple. In the second half David Brown, Vic Webster & Chris Woodhouse of Horsford Heroes beat Keith Halford’s triple 11-9 but Windows clinched the win as Wendy Cheal, John Wade & Andy Drummee beat David Crosby’s triple 17-6. League runners-up Thorpe Marriott won 10-4 at home to Taverham and have one match left to play. Taverham enjoyed a heavy 13-1 home win against Horsford Blue and will be pleased with their progress this season. Other games saw Horsford Gold win their penultimate game 14-0 at home to British Rail while Costessey pulled off an 8-6 win, 50-49 on shots, at Jarrolds where Wendy Tweed, Eugene Gillan & Graham Tweed won 21-4. Jarrolds won on all the other games with triples skipped by Steve Andrews, David Snodgrass & Tony Moore. First Bus completed their fixtures with a 12-2 away win at Horsford Blue to remain in third place. Whether they remain there depends on the results that Horsford Gold and Taverham achieve in their remaining games.
