Halvergate unbeaten record ended by Carter

Defending Bure League champions Halvergate suffered their first defeat of the season after a fiercely fought encounter away to top of the table Bob Carter. A win for Halvergate in this eagerly anticipated clash would have dealt a body-blow to Carter’s title aspirations and at the interval that looked a distinct possibility. Halvergate’s Kerry Greenacre, Paul Baker & Keith Cooke and Carter’s Simon Warnes. Melvin Woods & Jack Pye went into the final end of their game tied at 13-13 but the visitors picked up two shots to win the game 15-13. On the other mat Halvergate’s Donna Lamb, Steve Hall & Ryan Fox led Carter’s Alfie Woods, Morgan Warnes & AJ Brown by 14-12 with an end to go but home skip AJ Brown collected two shots to force a 14-14 draw. This left Halvergate 3-1 up on points going into the second half. Halvergate’s Ray Lamb, Sue Fox & Robbie Lamb started brightly against Gavin Gray, Nigel Willard & Jason Woods and had built up a big 13-4 lead after eight ends which spelt disaster for the home side. But things went rapidly downhill after that for the visitors as Robbie Lamb’s triple only added one more shot while Jason Woods’ triple won all the other remaining ends to record a 20-14 win. The remaining game was another one decided on the last end as the scores were level at 12-12 after fourteen ends. Bob Carter also came out on top of this one as well with home triple Lydia Kettlewell, Jack Gray & Gary Best taking three shots against Halvergate’s Steve Lamb, David Crosby & David Lamb to win 15-12 and see Carter home on points by 7-3. The result leaves Bob Carter seven points clear at the top but second placed Halvergate have a match in hand. Halvergate’s remaining games are all at home against Bob Carter, Watton Expendables & Thorpe Marriott while Carter’s two remaining games are at home to Thorpe Marriott and away to Halvergate.
