Harling push Halvergate all the way in Norwich Cup clash

Harling of the Breckland League entertained Bure League champions Halvergate, captained by Ryan Fox, in the Norwich Cup and pushed the pre-match favourites all the way in an excellent match. Harling won the first two ends to move 4-0 up but then played two of their three wildcards on the third and fourth end but failed to score on either. After eleven ends Harling had established a 10-5 lead but the away team then showed their teeth taking two shots on both the twelfth and thirteenth ends. Halvergate then played their first wildcard on the fourteenth end where they collected another six shots when their three shots were doubled up and they now led 15-10. Harling though were determined to stay in the match and after twenty-three ends had levelled the match at 18-18 and Halvergate knew they had a fight on their hands if they were to proceed to the semi-finals. Halvergate then upped the pressure scoring nine shots over the next four ends with Harling playing their third wildcard on end 27 and failing to score on a wildcard end for the third time. Halvergate played their third wildcard on end 28 and took a single which counted as two shots to move 29-18 ahead. They made sure of victory with a single on the penultimate end and added two more on the final end to win 32-18. Halvergate’s line-up for the match was Ryan Fox, David Lamb, Keith Cooke, Robbie Lamb, Ray Lamb, Donna Lamb, David Crosby & Steve Hall. Harling fielded George Hume, Glen Hume, Jill Hayman, Colin Hayman, Mike Tarrant, Ian Beckford, Rosie Beckford & Sid Burton. Halvergate join Wymondham, Watton Expendables & Thetford in the semi-finals with the draw to take place on Tuesday night at Hevingham. The play-by date for the semi-finals will be 6th March.
