Ireland win B.I Team titles but England taste success in Individuals

Like so many times before the British Isles Championships, this year hosted by Scotland at Auchinleck IBC, ended with Ireland triumphant in both the Premier Team Championships and the “A” Team Championships. Both events ended by returning similar results with Ireland winning both titles, Wales runners-up in both, England having to settle for third place in both and Scotland failing to register a single point in either. The end results will prove a disappointment for England Manager Steve McAlister who will have hoped to win more than just the games against Scotland. The British Isles Individual Championships left England with much more to celebrate. Bob Carter’s Gary Best and Cheshire’s Matty Worden are the new British Isles Premier Pairs champions with four points and +10 shots after a 22-12 win against Scotland, a 13-11 win against Wales with their one loss by 13-11 coming against Ireland. Scotland were second with four points with their heavy defeat against Best and Wooden left them with a shot difference of -8 shots. Ireland were third on two points and evens on shots while Wales were fourth with two points and -2 shots. England also won the British Isles Premier Fours title courtesy of Steve Stanton, Jack Knight, Ben Riley & Emily Thomas with Ireland runners-up, Scotland third and Wales fourth. The B.I Premier Triples title was won by Ireland with Sam Harvey’s England triple in second place and the B.I Premier Singles went to Ireland’s Colum McHugh ahead of Mikey John of Wales on shots with England’s Peter Roberts third. The individual “A” Team events in the British Isles proved a happy hunting ground for England with two wins and two runners-up spots. Wymondham’s Jack Marshall, and skip Glenn Harvey, won the Pairs title with maximum six points ahead of Wales in second place. England also won the Fours title with Watton Expendables bowler Chris Willies at number 3 with Tim Harwood, Richard Stagg & Mark White. Wales were second and Ireland third. In the Triples event Bob Carter’s Morgan Warnes & Jason Woods, playing with Dorset’s Chris Hall, finished runners-up behind Ireland with the Irish triples 15-11 win against England proving the vital result. Ireland’s Sean Quinn won the Singles title ahead of England’s James Trott in second place with Quinn’s 19-13 win against Trott deciding the issue. Looking back at the whole event from a Norfolk perspective it will be viewed as an excellent British Isles Championships with a few of Norfolk’s finest bringing back silverware.
