Norfolk Over 60's welcome Friends of Essex to Hingham

Norfolk Over 60’s welcomed Friends of Essex to Hingham Sports and Social Club on Sunday for the second leg of their annual challenge match. Defending a twelve-point lead earned in Essex the Norfolk side were determined to win after suffering successive loses against both Kent Invicta and Arthur Jackson’s North Yorks Select in recent weeks by the narrowest of margins. Both sides again consisted of forty bowlers playing in eight triples and eight pairs playing four games apiece over eight sessions. The first session saw Norfolk increase their aggregate lead to sixteen points as five Norfolk triples won while Friends of Essex scored three wins. Wins for Mike Tate, Clive Eke & Richard Broad and Diane Quadling, David Quadling & Bob Oatway would prove to be the first of four straight wins both Norfolk triples would achieve during the day. Session two saw the pairs in action and they increased Norfolk’s lead to 24 points. Kerry Greenacre & Selwyn Goldsmith won 18-2, Will Townsend & Terry Newby won 14-4, Steve Easter & Pauline Wilson won 12-5 and Marilyn & Alan won 11-7 as all four pairs scored the first of the four straight wins they would record on the day. Another pair who would remain unbeaten were Val Easter & John Jefferies who won 14-6 and would go on to score two more wins and a draw. Norfolk went on to win the third session 12-4, the fourth session 12-4, the fifth session by 10-6, the sixth session by 16-0, the seventh session by 12-4 and the final session by 14-2 to finish the day with a massive 98-30 points win. As always with Norfolk Over 60’s and Friends of Essex, it was a very enjoyable day of bowls for all players involved and games were played in the best of spirit as they always are when these sides meet. Norfolk Over 60’s Organiser was Teresa Goldsmith & Friends of Essex Organiser was Tony Ealham.
