Probably the biggest club match in Norfolk in recent years takes place on Thursday night when Breckland League giants Wymondham face Bure League and Cup winners Halvergate in the final of the Norwich Cup. Both teams dominate their respective leagues and this is one match that both will be determined to win. Wymondham & Halvergate will field an array of talent, including a number of current and former England internationals, and there is no doubt that pride will be at stake in this eagerly awaited encounter. Norwich Cup organiser Selwyn Goldsmith dramatically revamped the Norwich Cup competition this season making it totally different from any other event on the NCSMBA calendar. Played as a triples game on a single mat over thirty ends, both teams consist of eight players that captains can interchange throughout the match. Team captains have to ensure that all their bowlers play a minimum of eight ends, and also select three ends prior to the match where they play their “wild cards” when any shots scored by them are doubled up. This can have a dramatic effect on a game as proved in an earlier round when Harling played Connaught. Wymondham are currently Norwich Cup holders from when it was last played under more traditional rules. The neutral venue chosen for the final is Tivetshall Village Hall, Green Lane, Tivetshall, NR15 2BJ where spectators are welcome to witness what promises to be a superb match which is scheduled to start at 7.15pm.
