Norfolk entertained Essex “B” in the last match of the season for the 2016/17 squad. The Essex side struggled somewhat on the fast Norfolk mats but the friendly match was played in a good humoured way with both teams enjoying a great day of bowls. The solid combination of Joan Costello of Kirby Bedon, Graham Tweed of Hempnall and Thorpe Marriott’s John Jarvis worked as well as ever clocking up wins of 13-8, 9-5 & 19-5. Janet & Trevor Pinchen of Thorpe Marriott, skipped by young Jack Marshall of Connaught, won their games by 11-7 & 13-3 while Sheila Redwood, David Dewing & Terry Newby won by 12-8 & 9-2. Billie Barker, John Poynter & Melvyn Barker added wins of 11-4 & 9-7. Colin Coman & Sheila Bragg, with Jack Marshall at lead, won their first game 14-7 and with Elaine Oatway at lead in their second game won by 8-5. The final score was 28-4 to Norfolk on points, 178-92 on shots.
