Dorset win National Triples

Dorset’s Callum Beale, Alex Kley & Sam Harvey are the new National Triples champions after beating Nathan Caines, Tom Caines & Liam Lowery of West Mids 12-1 in the final. It was an historic victory as Dorset had never won this title before. A Fours title for Dorset in 1998, and wins for Alex Kley in the singles in 2022 & 2023, were Dorset's only titles in the main four Nationals up to this year. But 2024 will go down as a great year for them with both the National Triples and National Fours titles won over the weekend. The last day of the National Championships failed to be a good one for Norfolk’s qualifiers despite a bright start. Jack Pye, AJ Brown & Gary Best produced Norfolk’s best efforts on the day reaching the quarter-finals where they suffered a narrow 10-8 defeat against Liam Lowery's West Mids triple. They had qualified from their group in second place with two wins and a draw. Chris Willies, Neil Davidson & Chris Mann and Selwyn Goldsmith, Morgan Warnes & Jason Woods both qualified through the group stages winning their groups with a maximum six points each. But both were eliminated at the Last 32 stage where Mann's triple lost 9-8 against Cornwall and Woods' triple lost 11-4 to Jody Frampton's Kent triple. Trevor Brown, Debbie Sparham & Jon Sparham made a tremendous start to the day with a huge win against Cornwall’s Nigel Nicholls, Luke Jolly & Peter Hore. But a defeat in their second game left them needing to win their third game and with nothing going their way they made an early exit finishing in third place on three points.
